Graduate visa: the January 2027 change explained
The date that matters
GOV.UK states that a Graduate visa lasts two years for applications made on or before 31 December 2026, and 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027. PhD and other doctoral graduates receive three years.
You must still be eligible
You must be in the UK with the required Student permission and have completed an eligible course. Your education provider must have reported successful completion to the Home Office. Apply before your Student permission expires; the calendar deadline does not remove those conditions.
Planning your next role
The Graduate visa cannot be extended. A switch to another route may be possible if you meet that route’s requirements. Start gathering evidence of your experience and checking employers’ actual vacancies while planning your next steps.
